What We Do in the Shadows

Zom-com's have become all so familiar and quite dominating over vampire-comedies. Over the last five years there have only been two (Dark Shadows & Vamps), where there have been five zom-com's in the same period (Zombieland, Paranorman, Warm Bodies and Life After Beth).

So low budget vampire comedy What We Do In The Shadows is quite welcoming. Filmed in a BTS Big Brother style mockumentary’ we oversee the lives of three vampires and how they have adapted to live in modern day. It's a unique idea that hasn't been done before - and surprisingly very funny!

Following the vampire 101, conventions are stated; such as no silver, no reflections and immortality. But then it messes around with the idea in slapstick comedy and we get something entirely new and quite funny. Much like the Addam’s family, this is a close-related sister to it.

Led by Jermaine Clement (writer, director and lead role), much of the narrative is silly, but not beyond laughter. Once you progressively get used to its niche style and overly Transylvanian Simpson accents you can get on board with its comedy cult.

Rating:  4 Star Rating
